We've got a few threads around the Bend forum which highlight Bends national publicity. I just ran across the newest NYT's write up and figured this would be a good time to start a thread which combines all of Bends national recognition going forward.

Skiing write up: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/16/tr...tml?ref=travel

Spork got a write up too: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/15/tr...-bend-ore.html

If I could make a rule. Let us stick to recent articles. I'm not trying to censor, just trying to cut down on clutter.

Recent? I'd say in say the past 2 years are relevant?

Yeah, relevant is better than just recent.

You beat me to it! I just read this article and was logging in here to post it. Great link and great thread!

That is true, but transportation costs aren't factored in to any of the locations. Transportation costs vary greatly depending on the distance of travel and mode, so it's harder to gauge. I think it's still a relatively fair assessment, and gives a baseline for folks to consider.

IMO it is silly to compare the costs of a destination resort that requires little to no transportation - like Sun Valley - to Bachelor where the majority of lodging is probably 20+ miles from the resort and likely requires a rental car - UNLESS you include the average transportation costs.

And you are correct that transportation costs will vary widely - from nothing to significant. That is precisely why transportation costs should be included if you want an accurate comparison!

At the least the article should have included the average distance to the mountain which is a key piece of info for any visitor.

Look, we're not trying to debate every detail within the authorship of every article. None of us wrote these articles. If we had, I'm sure we would write them different and/or add in particular criteria as we saw fit.

We all understand that most any purely fluff/doom and gloom piece is flawed.

I agree - no point in debating - but IMO it makes sense to highlight missing information or inaccuracies when we see them.

The NY Times Travel piece was almost three full pages, with large color photos. That kind of publicity is worth a fortune.
