I am noticing a lot of new cars have them. I used to have a Honda Kona, and I liked the car, but I hated the head lights and thought they were kind of dim.
Wife's BMW X7 has split headlights. I hate them as there is black unlit rectangle between the two light beams when driving in dark rural areas, which is where we live.

I can certainly appreciate something that looks cool, but if I have to choose between form and function, I'll choose function every time. And for headlights - as you get older, your night vision declines, and I want nice bright headlights, with sharp vertical cutoff, and that actively turn with the car so as to better light the way ahead when cornering. I'll take all the aids the engineers can give me :-).
To shock and attract. New buyer, designers are pulling all sorts of tricks to stand out.
Fake exhaust tips? You got it. fake aside vents? Have some. Fake exhaust sounds inside the car via speakers? Have it.
Multi level lights is the new thing now.
I saw a new Santa Fe the other day and how retro 80s it looked and I liked it. I mean I’d never buy one, not even for free, but still it’s an interesting twist.

Fake stuff is nothing new. Musclecars in the '60s and '70s had all sorts of fake scoops and things:
Seems like no one flips THEM crap...
Multi level lights (like that GTO I posted) are ALSO nothing new, as are quad headlights in general:
The Lamborghini Miura had fake grillwork AND fake exhaust tips (that actually tilted with the rear bodywork when the engine lid was opened):
Split headlights? As in a styled DRL in one place and the actual headlight in a lower location?
If anything that makes sense as SUV's and trucks get higher. We all complain about the headlights from a big truck pulling in behind us blinding us. Now manufacturers are dropping the lights down.
The new traverse has a split headlight where the DRL and turn signal LED is up high, and the headlight is lower down
Manufacturers are simply looking to add new styling to their vehicles. The DRL up high in a strip and the headlights down low have been a thing for a while, especially from the Koreans. It took me a while to warm up to it but it's now attractive in my eyes.
