I would say it depends on how long yer planning to stick around
and whether yer employer pays you with IOU's or a real check.
A lot of people are seasonal workers.
They arrive around Easter and bug out by Thanksgiving.
If that's you I would suggest you get a pre-paid phone just for Williston and not
give up yer regular carrier.
Then you keep yer own plan when you go home for the winter.
If yer making a decent buck you should be able to afford both with no problem.
If yer planning to stay forever then transfer to the best local carrier.
If yer own plan works well enough in/around Williston stay on that year 'round.
Its a crap shoot to see what works and what doesn't up there.

Verizon and Verizon only. I did tower research and mapping up there. At&t has no network in williston if they ever did. Prepaid at&t will have zero service in williston. Nemont the local carrier is even more expensive than Verizon.

My cell phone is from my employer and it's Verizon. I have pretty decent coverage most of the time without issue. And I do a lot of driving for my job.

One suggestion I would make is to make sure you purchase a heavy grade case for your phone. Any of the ones built for the construction trades will work well. DeWalt makes a decent one, for example.

We just heard that Xfinity has expanded their service to the Williston area. I can highly recommend them; we've had them in Texas for decades for cell phone and internet. We haven't watched regular TV in a long time; we stream what we want when we want it.
