I had never heard of him. I was rooting for John Kent Cook to buy the team, but he could not pull it off.
The fact that he was from the area and was a fan gave me comfort, as it would anyone. The first real sign of trouble was his treatment of Norv Turner although he had already made his mark by firing long term employees for the hell of it. By the end of Schottenheimer's tenure, we all knew there was a serious problem.
I have come to believe that Snyder was not the true fan he claimed to be. I think he was vaguely aware of the team and jumped on the bandwagon during the Gibbs Era.
At this point, it's nearly moot. Crappy name, crappy stadium, and the next place will have all the appeal of a Home Depot. The glory days are long gone. The Redskins I knew were like the Brooklyn Dodgers. They had their time but it had to end.

I knew the team was screwed when he landed his helicopter on the field up at FSU during training camp, had some blonde on his arm, looked around for 15 minutes or so, then flew away never to be seen again.
That next season the training camp was moved to Ashburn, VA, and admission was charged to park, to watch, etc. It was all free up at FSU
