For a summer visit to Tahoe from san diego, I think I'm favoring the north shore as less over-crowded than south, west; don't know much of east.
Which is nicer (or to avoid) for summer visit: Tahoe Vista vs Carnelian Bay vs Incline village vs Other ?

For a question about Tahoe, you'll probably get better answers in a Tahoe forum.

Based on our limited experiences, South Shore if you want to do the active-touristy-let's-cross-over-to-Stateline-to gamble experience (which ain't half bad because, Lake Tahoe); North Shore if you want a somewhat quieter version of SS. Can't speak directly to either East or West.

Our goddaughter lives in Tahoe near the South Shore (closer to Emerald Bay) so when we lived in the SFBA we often stopped over for an evening or two while on our way to visit family in Reno. We alway have a lovely time; the scenery is breathtaking and is itself worth the price of admission, so to speak, with or without Mr & Mrs Goddaughter.
