Looks good and I think your proposed garage changes make a lot of sense. Not sure I'd be sold on your right side patio cover/outdoor fireplace - I think I'd do the fireplace as a firepit in a cleared area very near the house, but you obviously know your tastes better than anyone else...

One of the beauties of your lot is its relatively decent size and the rolling topography - I'd embrace that and have a nearby covered gazebo for outdoor dining/drinks/entertainment (similar to the for-sale cabin photos you included), and then a separate fire pit with seating, maybe adjacent to some outdoor games like horseshoes, cornhole, etc.

I would throw out a word of caution on the 2x double inswing doors in the dining room - it looks to me like it will be impossible to have a decent sized (6-8 seat) table + chairs and allow for any movement of people while still allowing those doors to open. It looks like the space for a table is basically 11'6"x10'6" - and you need to include passage space in that area too. Even if you don't care about the doors opening while the table is in use, I think it's going to be a constant game of contorting yourself through openings that will quickly get old.

I imagine it won't work stylistically with your plan, but I'd switch one of the doors to a slider and delete the second entirely (replace with a window). Honestly, given the small space, I'd probably omit both doors and just have windows, but it seems like doing a slider on the front of the house will optimize the available space and flow if you wish to have a door in the dining room.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing the progress!

Thanks for the feedback.

A lot of what you suggested is already in the works. Definitely want to do a identical gazebo, and thinking having an attached BBQ grill like the house that sold had.

We are changing those in-swing French doors to out-swing, as I thought the same thing about the clearance space around the dining table.

Regarding the fireplace, it wasn't an original thing we had planned but our builder that lives in Walker highly suggested it, said its one of the best things he ever did on his home and get a ton of use in the winter. Basically the fireplace is on the outside of the covered deck, so your back is toward the cabin and you are facing the fireplace and the forest, kind of creates an "enclosed" space of sorts and he said its amazing when there is snow out as the area between the fireplace and side of the cabin stays pretty warm.

Dirt is moving! Drove out yesterday evening and stayed out there till it got dark to check out the nighttime sky.

The driveway was cut in and the culvert is in place. Love that we get this winding driveway from the main road to the building pad, gives it a nice charm. They had to cut down a few pine trees already and it smelled amazing!

That looks like a really great project. I used to work for a gentleman that built log cabins outside of Nashville where there is a huge stand of cedar trees. Many of his homes were real works of art--for country music stars, etc. I knew another guy that built log cabins, and he was always buying log cabins for the logs--and reselling the logs.

Are you going to be burdened with a bunch of building codes out there?
Are you going to be off grid on the electricity?
Will you have problems finding enough dirt close to your house to place a septic tank and field lines?
And will you have difficulties putting in the foundation? Often, such excavations require either drilling and blasting or bringing in a track excavator with a breaker to demolish big rocks.

You're smart going with a large, experienced log cabin builder. I assume they'll fabricate the home, assemble it and disassemble it for shipping to the job site where it'll be reconstructed.

Please keep us informed on your progress.

It's great up there. Love it. We'd be neighbors, but I'm selling my place up there. We live in Yuma and we're not getting up there as much as I had hoped.

You can't find enough reasons to leave Yuma? Here's one.....the sun came up. My wife's grandparents lived out in The Foothills before it blew up. We'd go once a year for a 4 day weekend. I was ready to go home 5 minutes after arriving.

Good luck with the sale of your cabin.

Ha! If it were just me I'd be up there a ton. My wife just isn't as into it. So yeah, it's a bummer. We live in the foothills. It's a ghost town this time of year. Gonna put in a pool now. A decent consolation prize for selling the cabin, but still kinda sucks.

My wife's grandparents had (4) lots on 54th Pl I believe. They had a small 5x10 foot pool on the lot they lived on. Is was nice to be able to take a golf cart less than a mile top shoot guns but the highlight was watching a flash flood go thru the culvert out there. Pretty impressive. None of those businesses adjacent to the freeway existed back then but I stopped at the Greek food truck there this Spring on the way home from Tucson... VERY GOOD FOOD!! https://www.yelp.com/biz/azars-gyro-...terranean+Food

Site work is coming along! Driveway is all in roughed in with the final slope. Building pad area for the cabin and the garage is all cleared of trees. Now just needs final grading and should be done for now. Next is waiting on final plans back from the log company so we can then submit them to the County for permits. That'll take...months. :/

I'm loving the "curb appeal" coming onto the lot from the main road, the cabin is going to sit up high and should look pretty sweet.
