Without a doubt, every conceivable accident situation can find anecdotal episodes of having occurred.

Personally, the times I've been rear-ended by another vehicle while I was stopped at an intersection were unforeseeable events ... like a 16 yr old newbie driver who saw our direction traffic light turn green and stomped on the gas pedal. Never mind that I was in front of him and was just starting to move forward as the late cross traffic cleared the intersection. If I had dumped the clutch to briskly accelerate forward when the light turned green, I'd have run into the side of one of those late to the intersection other vehicles.

Bottom line: we all have our experience with various makes, their quirks, and traffic situations. The marques I've ridden and worked on for almost 50 years didn't tolerate sitting in gear with the clutch in for more than a moment or so. YMMV.

Disregard.

I just noticed the OP hasn't visited this site for 6 years.

So, there's an extremely good chance they'll never see what we've written in responses.

I took a 2 day refresher course and my favorite parts were "stopping on a dime" and having a 4x4 tossed in front of me randomly throughout our second day. I heard they only use 2x4's here now because someone got seriously injured during the same course in NOVA. I did not like the gravel or grates part.

I also wish people would stop blowing their grass and leaves into the street. Makes it hazardous when it rains.
