Hello,
I am a special education teacher and looking to move to NM. I don't have a specific area in mind but would like a town that is small to mid-size with outdoor activities nearby, reasonably-priced homes or land, liberal-leaning, average to low crime, diversity, and not in the hottest parts of the state. Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Also, if there any teachers out there who can offer some insight into teaching in NM, I would love to hear about your experiences.

You posted in the Las Cruces subforum. Las Cruces is in the hottest part of the state. You might try the New Mexico forum. If the place you are looking for actually existed, it would immediately be swamped with buyers who drive the price up. If you really mean small town rather than small city, then you will find more options but they are likely to be conservative.
OP, I recommend you look at Farmington, NM. The school district has special education vacancies right now. Moderate climate, plenty of water, and close to the mountains just north in Colorado. Also, mix of Anglo, Hispanic, Native American cultures.
