my vote goes to the mid 90s Bauer Supreme 2000,3000,4000

They had the ultimate stability and flex that gave your legs and feet so much ice feel that you could skate way better than today's stiff rigid boots. I never found today's skate as good as the Bauers from the 90s.

What is your opinion on the best skates ever made for hockey?

The original CCM TACKS. The new ones are great too, but the original ones just felt stronger overall.

I recently got back into ice skating hockey style after a long long break. Skates of today even mid level are very stiff and tight fitting compared to what I am used to. I went thru new Bauer Supreme Elites. CCM Ribcore 86k and now will give True Cat 5 a try. When I go to the arena I see people who can't skate well wear these very expensive stuff skates and they would be better off just buying the cheaper less stiff skates to start. Skates can be up to 1200 bucks now. Wow.

I use to skate circles around people in flexible Bauer 2000 from the 90s that needed zero break in or baking in an oven. I miss those skates massively. They could not transfer power that great but that ice feels and flex was better than today's skate imo.

I feel for most people who are not skating in hockey games to just be more comfortable than by the book with a really tight fit. I did it and don't even want to get in the skates anymore. So this time I bought a bit bigger than I should and will buy bigger socks just for skating.

The ones that had the very cushiony gel ankle pocket.

I don't like the new Bauer vapors they are too narrow for my liking. I'm more of a CCM guy.

Skated on True Catalyst 5 yesterday 1st skate. Took about 30 mins to break in, and get used to the taller height. After that it's fantastic. In regular width has a wide footed for stability and pushing off is easier for me.

I know True has some durability questions but I have to go with them as CCM and Bauer just don't fit. I tried tacks, jetspeed, vapors, ribcors.

I may just pick up another Catalyst 5 or go to the Cat 7. just in case the line is discontinued. I never want thru that skate shopping nightmare again. They are fun to look at but man does it hurt on your wallet to get the wrong ones.
