Our five day average is at 50.5 right now. Tomorrow I will get rain at about 4:00pm. I am going to get my pre emergent down by noon and hope for the best.

No problem, Glad you're finding it useful.

Unfortunately, too many people make the mistake of waiting until temperatures are in the low 70s and not realizing at all what the associated actually is between crabgrass germination and soil temperature. :Ok:

Here in one of the "warmer" areas of my state, soil temp is 38. Having a pretty odd spring, as we have had several abnormally warm days. After a pretty dry winter (so far). Calling it spring already is an exaggeration for around here. Some of the biggest snows I've seen here have been in April. But I did see a sedum beginning to peek out of the mulch this afternoon.

Some people are so confusing surface temperature with soil temperature. The surface temperature means absolutely nothing when it comes to timing of crabgrass prevention in the spring or pre-emergent for other types of annual grasses in the fall. Rely solely on soil temperature in your area.

I often check soil temperature on Greencast. Today it's 53° in Nevada City. Not so long ago I found info about soil salinization and how to prevent and manage it, see this article. It could be useful for gardeners and farmers. Modern high-tech agriculture tool brings reliable field analytics to farmers. That's convy, I think such toold are must have for every gardener and farmer.

I am in Canada and have been trying out a cold frame this year. On sunny days with the air temp just a bit above freezing, the top of the soil temp in the frame has sometimes gone up to 65F.......We had a bit of snow last night and I checked the soil temp and it was down to about 32F.....I'm a bit worried about some seedlings I have in there, will have to check them this afternoon.
