Good point, wasn't thinking of that. thank you.

Also, any word on the outlet shops planned for the old P&W Site near Cabela's? They said they want it open in the Summer of 2016, which doesn't seem feasible. (East Hartford's Rentschler Field To Get Outlet Shopping Center - tribunedigital-thecourant)

Great minds think alike. I thought the same thing. Why not put the casino downtown to bring even more life to it. I am not sure where, maybe up by the baseball stadium? It could compliment that but then again may scare away families.

I have heard nothing on that outlet center recently. I think it may have died like a couple of the others around the state. Personally I was thinking that Rentschler Field might make a good spot for a massive 55+ community. You know the kind with all different types of housing and a large active community center. That could bring needed taxes to East Hartford without the burden of school-age children. I know it is a pipe dream but it certainly better than waiting for some developer to come up with something that could actually get built there. JMHO, Jay

I also saw that there is an improve group in Hartford trying to raise money to open an improve club downtown. They wanted to raise $35,000 but look to be ending with nearly $58,000!!! What a great addition to downtown. Jay

The area around Cabelas is a old airstrip that was once owned by Pratt and Whitney. The issue is many people are against it because it might destroy the wildlife in that area. They might move the birds to Stafford? That's what I heard. Am I the only one who thinks putting that outlet mall is a bad idea? It doesn't seem like a good place to have an outlet center. With all that land I would think it would be used for something better. There's already so many shopping areas not too far from there. Evergreen Walk isn't too far as well as other shopping plazas in Manchester and East Hartford. It may only be good because Cabelas is right there and it already attracts a lot people out of state. Yet Cabelas sales are dipping because of the new Cabelas store in Massachusetts and soon to be open Bass Pro in Bridgeport.

As for the casino. Putting one in East Hartford is a decent option. I think putting one in East Hartford would be better than Hartford. Exactly how would they be able to add it to the XL Center? Most likely the CRDA would disapprove of that since they want to expand the XL Center's bowl or completely tear it down and start over. Would any of you like the idea of building a new XL Center on the eastern half of Busnell Park? Right on the corner of Elm and Pulaski Circle? Then when they tear down the old XL Center put another residential tower next to Hartford 21. It sounds like an awful since there's a 0% of building something on Busnell Park. Haha!

Looks like the Hooker Brewery/Restaurant in NoDo maybe in jeopardy. I think this is a very important part of making the NoDo development a success. I hope it can be worked out. Jay

To add more about the DoNo development

Grocery store next to the ballpark will start construction in October. This will be good for the north end as they are in desperate need of a grocery store.

Northland which built Hartford 21 is hoping to build a new apartment complex where the old YMCA is standing. Good news for downtown. I wish it was a taller building.

7 stories? Above ground parking? Serious missed opportunity for a prominent spot. I hope the economy keeps this squashed for now. That lot screams for a marquee tower right on Bushnell Park.
