A University of Texas domo said the tough parts out loud. In essence so many high schoolers are graduating with 4.0 or very close GPA that the school can't properly place them.

A second factor is SAT and ACT results actually helped traditional educational minority applicants over those without testing.

It makes sense that a test is a pretty good predictor of success at a place where your main activity is going to be taking tests and writing essays, etc...

But yeah, when Covid happened basically all the K-12 schools started giving out all As, so their HS gpa is worthless.

Something about getting rid of standardized tests for college admissions isn't quite cutting it.

Hmm... I wonder why?

I thought that the whole ACT/SAT process was branded as racist and exclusionary?

In other news, the NBA will no longer take applications from 5'2" players to try out for center.

Yeah, well reality trumped feelings on this particular topic.

Kinda cruel letting kids into schools and programs that they are not ready for.

It is not uncommon in many countries for economically successful ethnic groups to be resented by economically less successful ethnic groups.

As much as we like to believe that the United States is unique, on closer scrutiny it is actually no different than much of the rest of the world.

A lot of it is driven by US visa processes. We skim the top off a lot of countries like China, India, Pakistan etc.
