The ranking system need an overhaul if it's going to work equitably, which it hasn't...like ever.
For example an unbeaten Big10 team (7-0) loses to a 2 loss Big Ten team (5-2) and drops from #3 to #12. An unbeaten AAC team (7-0) loses to another AAC team with two losses (5-2) and drops from #14 to #23 (or out of the rankings altogether). The Big10 team can lose again and still be Top 15 while the AAC team will now have to run the table with no more losses to get back to #14 which is "conveniently" out of the playoff conversation.
It's rigged and not legit in terms of a national champion in BCS until all undefeated and one loss teams get the opportunity to make the playoffs. Just like the FCS, NCAA Division II and III along with the NAIA do every year.
