Thanks for the info. So they use the Bay Area but not DFW? Hmmm. Also surprised to see Austin but no Atlanta

It looks like just the city of SF and the 101corridor from San Mateo to San Jose, around 3m people total, they aren't counting the East Bay or Marin.

As far as DFW, I'm guessing if they had a concentration of wealth in the same scale as the Bay Area, they would definitely count it.

So this is only within the 61 sq. miles of Washington D.C. without including the suburbs? Pretty impressive for DC and Boston which is even smaller than DC.

Atlanta is a poor people's city. They say the only reason people live there is because they can't afford to live anywhere else.

I would have expected that a good chunk (and perhaps even majority?) of the uber-wealthy in Austin would live in West Lake Hills or Barton Creek, so I'm surprised there would be so many living with us in Austin proper. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure this applies to other cities as well, like Dallas with the park cities. I'm skeptical that they are truly going by city limits...

The "millionaire" stat is pretty outdated these days as having exactly 1 million clearly puts you in the middle class. That should probably be 10M if the goal is to track "wealthy".

Barely.

There’s only ~24.5 million people in the US with a net worth +$1 million, or 6% of the population. Factor in before we get into CoL nuances between cities/regions or the fact 9/10x that net worth is locked up into a home(s) and you get a better idea of living standards.

The study claims to measure city proper (for the most part). Perhaps a majority of Atlanta's big wealth in located in the burbs?

For example, a good majority of Philadelphia area wealth is located in the surrounding suburban counties. Not saying either city should be listed, just pointing out that Atlanta may fall into that category of wealth distribution.

Idk if this is supposed to be city or MSA? It includes The Bay Area which implies MSA. These numbers look a little suspect or at least use an inconsistent methodology.
