Smh...

Baltimore so far has 2 shootings but no homicide. Baltimore Co beats the city having its first homicide, with a man found dead in far NE part of BalCo, currently being investigated as a homicide.

EDIT: The 1st homicide in DC occurred in a hotel room in one of the safest part of the city (Friendship Heights)...just smh even though it is likely targeted.

Impressed that no one has been killed in NYC as of 01/01!

Memphis, Fayetteville NC, Denver, Louisville, Boston, Oakland, Baton Rouge, Albany, Little Rock already recorded their first homicides of the year already, with 2 separate shootings in Fayetteville, NC.

Also no one has been killed in St Louis, Detroit, and Milwaukee as of right now!

Philly 0 homicides. 1 domestic related shooting. Off to a great start compared to last year (15 shot on new years' day) Crime is trending in the right direction continuing from last year. This year might be the year the city returns to pre-pandemic levels. In 2023, the city saw a decrease from post-pandemic levels but remained slightly above pre-pandemic numbers.

My husband and I drove by one today----in Oakland. The deceased was lying on the ground in a gas station parking lot. He was covered by some kind of blanket but his feet were showing. Dunno what happened, Police investigators were walking about with their cameras and yellow tape but we stopped at the red light just long enough to actually see him. Sad.

This is only the second day of the year. It's usually quiet for the first month or so in St. Louis. When the weather warms up the city looses its mind. Hopefully the push for intervention and community development will continue to bring down violent crime.

Philadelphia made it through 2 nights in 2024 without a homicide. And the new much anticipated Mayor is officially sworn in.
Hopefully big drops in shootings & homicides this year.

#1 in Baltimore.

Of course way, way too early to see if the downward trend continues from 2023.
