I am getting ready to call Verizon to change my plan. Thought I could do that online but the only options they show are more expensive than what I have, and I want something cheaper. I expect they will try to bully me into something I don't need, so I would like to know enough ahead of the call to be able to tell them what I want.
This change is prompted by my daughter leaving my plan today, so now I have only the one line and I don't need all the features that she needed ( she is a global traveler ).
What I think I have: New Verizon Plan Medium 4 GB at $87.85 a month.
What I want: Something cheaper. I don't use much data, don't do streaming. Mostly I just get a lot of texts. Nice to be able to create a hotspot if my internet goes down, though that would be quite rare.
I am a veteran and over 65 y.o. if that matters.
I see a plan called Verizon 35 GB Prepaid for $35 a month after $10 a month autopay discount. That is appealing unless there is a downside for me.
Any Verizon plan experts here who can offer advice?
You are currently postpaid (monthly invoice) and want to switch to prepaid/MVNO? Please clarify.
I am currently postpaid. I "think" I want to go prepaid, because it is about half the cost of what I have now. But stay with Verizon, so not MVNO. Confused by all the marketing hype. I just want to know I am not doing something stupid.

Thanks for the update. You can view the available plans at the Verizon internet site (both postpaid and prepaid). Currently I am a Verizon customer with 2 postpaid phones on a shared 55+ plan. As I understand, that plan is only available in Florida.

This is what I do and have for years. Like you I only use the phone as a phone and some texting. I find it shocking how much money some people pay for a "phone", but it must be worth it to them.
You may already be aware that the Verizon website is atrocious along with their customer service. I recently bought a new Verizon Samsung phone at Best Buy, then went across the street to the Verizon store to get it set up. They said they couldn't help me and that I would have to do it on the website. LOL. Makes perfect sense.
You do realize some people make more money then you, right? $90 a month is peanuts for me.
What I find funny is op being worried about being bullied. LOL No VZW sales rep is going to bully you.
Hopefully you won't grow old or suffer a massive head injury along the way.
