All I can find is that it's modest-income and mostly White. What about culture, ethnicity, crime...etc.

It's roughly halfway between Buffalo and Rochester. So there's that.

There are visible black and Hispanic populations there and I’m not sure that serious crime is an issue there. It is technically in the Rochester Combined Statistical Area(CSA). Ironically, the Catholic HS there(Notre Dame HS) is in the Diocese of Buffalo.

Again, is there anything you are specifically looking for in terms of a community, neighborhood, housing, budget, etc.?

It's in Genesee County, which is more economically linked to the Rochester region, but probably realistically could be split down the middle

I worked there for 25 years and its a relatively rural, lower income area with not much to do. Shopping consists of Walmart, Home Depot and Tops. Most of the retail is clustered around Walmart on the east end of town. On my lunch hour I would walk all over the city, a radius of 2 miles from the center and I am very familiar with the area. Not many decent non chain restaurants. I ate at Bohn's every day for years but unfortunately its closed. Alex's (awesome pot roast on Thursday) is very popular and Terry Hills is the most upscale. There are some nice houses around Centennial Park. When the massive Massey Harris plant closed in 1958 the city lost thousands of irreplaceable jobs. Its about average for crime. The prisons are large employers. They tore down the entire downtown to build the Genesee County Mall which is almost vacant and now with JC Penney closing it must be really sparse.

^ Many of the jobs are at Food processing/dairy plants like O-At-Ka, Hood or places like those in this posts: https://www.city-data.com/forum/59195973-post1114.html Some likely work in the Buffalo or Rochester areas, as well as other smaller employers.

I believe that there is some development taking place in the city as well: https://www.city-data.com/forum/59314238-post1849.html

They need to rehab Carr's Department store. Here is an article about what Batavia was like in the 1960's:

It depends what you are looking for?

Batavia might be perfect for you, or you should stay away. You're post is somewhat vague so not really sure how to respond.

It's a small agricultural town in between 2 medium sized cities 30-45 mins from either.

Here is a post from another thread in the forum that illustrates the presence of one of the populations mentioned above: https://www.city-data.com/forum/59501602-post2536.html

Again, are you still looking for affordable senior housing?

Batavia is the sort of place that I couldn't imagine anyone moving to if they didn't already know someone there.
