Love the clip, I liked NASCAR much better when the cars were built from actual 'bodies in white' and it was only cheatin' if ya got caught. .
But I'm feelin' old, 'classic' NASCAR to me would be drivers like Fireball Roberts, Curtis Turner, Freddie Lorenzen et al and builders like Smokey Yunick and his bag of tricks.

Well, the good news is at least us race fans have a lot of choices these days, I well remember watching an hour and a half? of Wide World of Sports, including such things as Sumo wrestling and Tiddlywinks Tournaments (seriously, it was on) just to see 10 minutes of the Monaco GP.

I, too, remember those days of 'Wide World of Sports', with race commentator Chris Economaki......(did I spell that right?)
The CoT lasted until 2016, same year that Jeff Gordon and Dale Jr. retired, my last two drivers.
I began watching NASCAR Jeff's first year and picked him as my driver since I wasn't too familiar with the older drivers at the time.
Then began rooting for Jr as well, when he raced in Cup. Didn't really follow Busch Series at that time.
Jeff is soon to be main man at Hendrick Motorsports, once Mr. Hendrick moves on. Jr is still very involved, owning one of the best Xfinity teams and his podcast and announcing duties with NBC.

Yea, I watched a lot of races back then. Now its just too boring with the cookie cutter type cars. Drivers you never heard of. They show run a Classic NASCAR. No cars newer then a 1975 body style.
I was an 80s kid. I loved Richard Petty, Dale Erhardt, Harry Gant and that generation of driver. The cars looked cooler back then for a teenager. Racin' was racin'! I have not watched a full seat since #3 died.

Seems to fit racing pretty well.
So, HOW do you define a "real sport"?
