Humans like to act on their emotions and compassion is a nice thing to have but excess compassion or compassion applied incorrectly can end up backfiring. It pays to think things through using your prefrontal cortex and make logical choices rather than just going blindly forward based on how you feel. Of course, evolution means people aren't necessarily going to do this because it's very difficult.
