Located at 136 East De la Guerra Street, Santa Barbara, California is the Santa Barbara Historical Society and Museum. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sundays 12 to 5pm. The museum is always closed on Mondays and most major holidays. Guided tours are provided at 2pm on Saturdays only. The museum operates on donations, thus allowing anyone to enter the museum for free should they desire to obtain a little education.
Santa Barbara Historical Society offers a few permanent exhibits and temporary displays. America's Grandeur is a temporary exhibit with landmark works. They have 25 paintings of landscapes created by Clyde Aspevig. These landscapes are from several locations around the United States.
The Story of Santa Barbara is a permanent exhibit showing the history of Santa Barbara from the Chumash Indians to the 20th century. One of the previous exhibits at the museum was Lasting Impressions by Colin Campbell Cooper. Cooper was an impressionist artist who offered views of America and worldwide landmarks. Portraits in Paradise was another temporary exhibit. This exhibit was based on the photography of Carolyn and Edwin Gledhill. They had a lifelong career together and separately of photographing people.
