Juniper Lake

Secluded and pristine Juniper Lake, located in the southwest corner of Lassen Volcanic National Park in California, offers visitors striking blue water and five miles of shoreline at an elevation of just short of 7,000 feet above sea level.

There is a beach area near the parking lot where visitors can launch a boat or sit quietly and view the scenery, which includes Mt. Harkness across the lake. Lodging at the lake consists of campgrounds or a few cottages on the north shore of the lake.

Tourists visiting Juniper Lake can enjoy swimming at the lake, the use of non-motorized boats, or fishing in the clear waters. The Juniper Lake Road opens usually in early July and closes late in October, and the National Parks Service does not recommend using trailers on the road to Juniper Lake.

The lake is about 130 miles north of Reno, NV and about 115 miles east of Redding, CA. The last seven miles of the drive from Chester, CA to Juniper Lake is unpaved. The road to the lake ends at a parking lot with several trailheads and restrooms. Lassen Cinder Cone, Lassen Volcanic National Park Visitor Center, Lake Almanor and numerous campgrounds are all located within 50 miles of Juniper Lake.
