Folsom Valley Railway

Folsom Valley Railway is an actual train that continues to run out of Folsom, California. It offers scenic rides for tourists who wish to get a look at the countryside. The railway was built in 1970 by the Sherman Brothers. The money was requested from Mayor Jack Kipp. The brothers owned it for a few years, and then it was turned over to Mylan Thurley from 1978 to 1990. He operated until 1990 when he sold it to Terry Gold who operates it today.

The train is steam powered, which means it takes 1.5 hours to get it warmed up and .5 hours to power it down. The water intermixes with the machine metal parts allowing it to work. For this reason the train is stored over the winter months to keep it in good running condition. The Engine is a Cricket. Depending on the time of the year the train may run on weekends or throughout the week. The train is found near Folsom City Park and the Public Library. Train rides are only 10 minutes in length with a .75 mile track. The ride is $2.00 per person, for adults and children. The train is a miniature.
