Cholla Cactus Garden

Southeastern California's Joshua Tree National Park was created as a National Park in the U.S. during 1994 when the California Desert Protection Act was passed by the United States Congress. Since 1936 and up to the time the act was passed it was known as a National Monument. The Yucca brevifoli or Joshua tree forest that are native to the area are where the park received its name. There is a large part of the land designated as a wilderness area.

Cholla Catcus Garden is a quarter mile loop trail found in the park twenty miles from the Cottonwood Visitor Center to the north. The trail has is surrounded by a dense area of Cholla Cactus which is where the name comes from. The park can be visited at anytime during the year and stay open all the time. When the fall temperatures begin to be moderate the park has an increase in visitation. The wildflowers are seen during the spring.

The Park offers a number of activities to visitors. You can go on a guided walking tour, hike or enjoy a ranger program offered in the park. Joshua Tree National Park offers numerous opportunities and the Cholla Cactus Garden is one of the many beautiful must see sites.
