Geology Tour

The Geology Tour is located within the Joshua Tree National Park near Joshua Tree, California and is 140 miles east of Los Angeles. The north entrances to the park are at Joshua Tree and Twentynine Palms and the south entrance at Cottonwood Springs. The park features many interesting natural geological formations, which can be observed on the Geology Motor Tour.

The 18-mile tour leads through the park's fascinating landscapes with 16 stops along the dirt track for visitors to be able to take photographs. Before setting off on the trip, visitors can obtain a brochure that outlines all the features at each stop. The round journey takes approximately two hours, but to complete the whole trip a four wheel drive is recommended.

As well as the panoramic views, visitors will see interesting features such as prehistoric Native American rock carvings. Humans are believed to have occupied this site for at least 5,000 years, with the first group to inhabit the area being the Pinto Culture. The park is always open and can be visited any time of the year. Additional information can be obtained from the Oasis, Joshua Tree and Cottonwood Visitor Centers as well as the Black Rock Nature Center.
