  • Critical 3's Baker's Keyboard Preservation Event Mission Statement Our Mission: to Preserve the Musical Legacy and History of Baker’s Keyboard Lounge, the World’s Oldest Jazz Club since 1934, located in Detroit, Michigan for as many years. To return honor, integrity, truth, love & respect to the stage graced by legendary musicians and to the piano still housed within its walls. We intend to re-introduce the rich history with respect and integrity to our current musicians and new artists. We choose to lead this effort with an army of seasoned and guided musicians standing shoulder-to-shoulder with this cause as we intend to return National Recording Artists to its stage. We will also purposefully strive to build out this historic location with theatre seating to hold Intimate Nights with the Stars of our current and future musical generations. Critical 3 Entertainment Group, Inc. will make sure that honor, integrity, truth, love & respect are at the forefront of our mission. We intend to do this by creating the C3 Baker’s Oversight Committee. The purpose of this committee is to be in control of the direction and planning of all events, fundraisers and financial matters dealing with the funds that have been raised for this sole purpose. The C3 Baker’s Oversight Committee will make certain that all artists are respected, appreciated and paid. It is this committee’s responsibility to oversee all future events and plans in respect to Baker’s Musical Legacy and History as well as to create and document the rich history of Baker’s for future jazz enthusiasts and educators. Our cause is great; our Commitment is Greater! This committee will be host to no more than 12 members, and no less than 5. The Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Committee have been identified and the membership is under recruitment with required qualifications for the passion of preserving the rich musical legacy and history of Baker’s Keyboard Lounge. This committee is expected to be in place and begin making decisions within the first two weeks of October 2009. Who are the Artists who care about Baker’s Keyboard Lounge: Well, let’s start with the unsung, unappreciated, the hard working, and under paid artist – YOU! Without you, there would have been NO Baker’s Keyboard Lounge. Since 1934, Baker’s has offered a stage for many of our great jazz and blues performers which all started with the dream of Clarence Baker Jr. and to this day, Baker’s has continued on with that tradition. Since the sale of Baker’s back in 1996, Baker’s has fallen short on the true meaning of the Baker’s Musical Legacy and History to so many artists. This is one reason why Critical 3 Entertainment Group, Inc. is spearheading the preservation of this legacy and not just assisting the need to save Baker’s from closing its doors. Critical 3 has passionately committed its resources to help in preserving Baker’s rich history, and to enlist those Jazz Musicians who have been fighting to bring back the integrity and honor of the stage it knew so long ago. Who are the Friends of Baker’s? All of us. The listeners, the dreamers, the partners and the patrons. We must do this, but, why? We must do this for the treasure that it is; for the contribution it makes to our community, for the city that loves its heritage, for the surrounding areas, and for all of the spirits of our jazz legends current, past and future. Baker’s is far reaching – it is not just for our locale, but it is for the world as it is known as “The World’s Oldest Jazz Club.” This is a national and international cause and we would ask all of our friends from around the world to rise up and help in this preservation. Baker’s Keyboard Lounge Benefit Concert: It is our most sincere hope that we can offer a once in a life time reunion benefit concert with some of the greatest, hottest, most respected jazz artists in the industry on one stage for one night, all to help preserve, save and keep this historic and loved venue (World’s Oldest Jazz Club) alive and open. Due to the dire need and immediate urgency of the Baker’s venue, we thought of having this concert the week of Thanksgiving 2009. The location has not been selected, but our team, Kathleen Phipps, Critical 3’s Sr. Promotions & Events Officer and Donald F. Gay, Jr. C3’s Executive Operations Officer are both working diligently to lock down the venue and artists for this historic event. With that in mind, we are calling on all Jazz musicians and enthusiasts to come help make this benefit a success. It will not, and cannot happen without YOU, the artist. Donations: You can make a donation to the “Baker’s Keyboard Preservation Fund” at any Bank of America or you can mail your donation to The Baker’s Keyboard Preservation Fund, P.O. Box 04040, Detroit Michigan, 48204. This will help in the collection of public and private donations and allow contributions to come into the Baker’s Preservation Fund from anywhere in the United States. Monday’s & Tuesday’s @ Baker’s: Starting October 5, 2009 Critical 3 Entertainment Group will be hosting, JAZZY MONDAY'S Event and a R&B TUESDAY'S Event every week at Baker’s. We will be showcasing some of metro Detroit’s hottest jazz and R&B artists, along side some of our great musicians. Each week we will bring new artists, and Spotlight the great jazz artists, with special appearances by Perry Hughes, Gene Dunlap and Johnny O’Neal. On R&B Tuesdays, our house band is under the direction of Arthur “Speq” Colden and composed of the last artists to record live at Studio A at Motown’s Hitsville USA, another Detroit and World Treasure. This is a great opportunity to show support for the Baker’s Musical Legacy and future History. Both nights there will be a minimal cover charge at the door of $5.00 per person due to the current economic devastation in our area. Along with the cover charge for each person, we are asking patrons to make a contribution to the Baker’s Preservation Fund. We need to pay our performing artists and any additional contribution will be solely commissioned for the preservation of the Historical Legacy of Baker’s Keyboard Lounge. There will be a contribution box placed at the door for this well needed effort. Volunteers who have grown up through life going to Baker’s and who love the legacy of Baker’s will stand at the door, will host the event and will make certain our musicians are appreciated and enjoyed. Critical 3 will also be distributing promotional and informational packages to the media circuit to inform the public on the direction and plans of the C3 Baker’s Oversight Committee, for the Preservation effort for Baker’s Keyboard Lounge, and we’ll be adding information on our web-site along with links to Baker’s (www.bakerskeyboardlounge.com) and performing artists sites. Critical 3 will also have the rich history in photo and text of Baker’s on our site for viewing as we also explain our committed intent and purpose for the Preservation of the Musical Legacy and History of Baker’s Keyboard Lounge. So, Critical 3 Entertainment Group is asking you to join in this effort. We must continue to offer this treasure to the world. If you have any questions, please contact our Sr. Promotions & Events Officer; Kathleen Phipps directly at her personal phone 313.303.2525 or email KJPhipps2008@gmail.com. LET’S BRING BACK BAKER’S KEYBOARD LOUNGE, OUR HISTORICAL AND LEGENDARY TREASURE. Baker's Keyboard Lounge 20510 Livernois Avenue @ 8 Mile Road Detroit, MI 48221 GOD BLESS!
