Barrett Condominiums underwent a major renovation in 2016 to repair extensive water intrusion damage due to poor and/or improper design and/or construction problems dating back to 1993 at a cost to the HOA of around $1.2 million dollars. The repairs included a new cladding system to the stucco exterior that will properly shed and disperse water; proper seals and drip edges to ensure water does not penetrate the exterior shell; a replacement of affected windows, walls and balconies, which were also redesigned to meet current code, and a replacement of the roof membrane. The repair also included new carpet in all public areas, new light fixtures and exterior railings; new suite numbers and interior/exterior signage, and painting of all interior and exterior publics spaces. The engineering and interior/exterior designs were performed and managed by the Amento Group, who also oversaw the construction performed by McBride Construction, both located in Seattle.
