Description: Fitchburg can be somewhat elusive for anyone looking at a map. The land just south of Madison on both the end of Park Street, Fish Hatchery Road, and Verona Road falls under its purview. Depending on what direction you are coming, you might just see farmland behind the roadside sign. Much of Fitchburg is just 10 minutes from downtown. Especially along the south side of Madison, the typical traveler wouldn’t know where the town ends and the city begins but for a road sign. But Fitchburg is hardly an extension of the city. The city offers some chain restaurants and shops as well as some very good locally owned eateries and its own brewpub. State multiuse trails including the Capital City, Military Ridge, and the most recent, the Badger State, pass right through Fitchburg making the city a magnet for cyclers.
