Description: Three blocks from the Historic Area and opposite William and Mary’s football stadium, George and Sharon Hollingsworth host guests in their three-story Colonial Revival home, built about 1926. Antique furnishing and Oriental rugs throughout the house suggest luxury; a plantation parlor on the main floor is kept cozy by a wood-burning fireplace in winter. In the warmer months, you can enjoy the outdoors on the deck, patio, or screened side porch. Five large guest rooms, each with private bath, offer a variety of accommodations. The Chesapeake features a handcrafted pencil-post, queen-size bed and an unusual corner sink. The James has four-poster pencil-post twin beds handcrafted from a single tree by master craftsman Fred Craver. The third-floor Pamlico has windows on three sides and can be combined with the sitting room across the hall with its half-bath and sleeping accommodations for two, making the entire floor a private suite. Terry robes are provided for the private hall bath. The Potomac Room has an en suite bath and a private porch with rocking chairs and features a king-size bed with canopied half-tester. The York is a favored room for honeymoons (package plans available) and anniversaries, with its queen-size, turned-post canopied high rope bed and en suite bath with original claw-foot tub.All rooms have remote-controlled ceiling fans, TVs, and VCRs. Beds are turned down nightly—look for a pillow mint. There is zoned central air-conditioning, free wireless Internet access, and in-room phones. Breakfast is a decadent affair with French toast, western omelets, soufflés, and a variety of casseroles. Pickup from Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport or Amtrak is available upon request. Children older than eight years old with well-behaved parents are welcome. Single occupancy rates are available year-round. This is a nonsmoking inn.
