Description: Jane and Fred Garland were owners of a B&B near Kennebunkport, Maine, when they came to Williamsburg as tourists and fell in love. They searched for years before finding a home to buy and relocating their business, in 2007, to a warmer climate. The inn they bought and renamed is on a shady side street, a few blocks off the main drag—a good choice for those whose sleep might be disturbed by the noise of traffic on busy Richmond Road. The Garlands can provide permits for on-street parking on College Terrace which allows guests to forgo having to worry about where to park downtown and instead take a 10-minute stroll through William and Mary’s beautiful campus to Merchants Square, six-tenths of a mile away. The Williamsburg Trolley stops nearby, and Fred regularly picks up guests at Williamsburg’s quaint Amtrak Station, if they want to forget their cars altogether. Bentley Manor has four lovely bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed, remodeled private bath, cable television, and small refrigerator. Wireless Internet is available throughout the house for no charge. The Garlands serve a full breakfast from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. consisting of hot entrees (omelettes, sour cream blueberry pancakes), fresh fruit, and baked goods. Afternoon snacks and beverages are made available, weather permitting on the screened-in sunporch. Older children (15 and up) are welcome, but there’s no smoking and no pets allowed.
