Description: Few teams on the UT campus have captured the attention and admiration of Austin sports fans like our women’s basketball team. Over the past 20 years, the team has attracted the most fans in women’s basketball history with a total attendance of well over 1.5 million. Success on the court is the reason. During the 14-year history of the Southwest Conference, the Longhorns took 10 regular-season titles and won 9 tournaments. In 1986 the Longhorns became the first women’s basketball team in the history of the National Collegiate Athletic Association to record a perfect season with a 34–0 record. The Longhorns, who moved to the Big 12 conference at the start of the 1996–97 season, draw an average of more than 5,000 fans to the Frank Erwin Center for the approximately 16 home games played during the regular season, which runs Nov through Feb.
