Description: The fact that “Tech” encourages art studies (there’s not yet a formal art program) impresses us; that outside-the-lines thinking shows in the quality of exhibitions at this gallery. There’s more about Tech in the Education chapter. As part of the School of Mines, the Apex welcomes exhibits not only by contemporary artists but also by scientists, many of whom are nationally and internationally recognized. The gallery often aims for educational enrichment in its exhibits and has included work that relies on interactivity. For example, installation artist Sandy Skoglund worked with art history students in 2001 to create a surreal environment. Exhibits are usually shown for six to eight weeks and often are launched with an opening reception. Even though you’ll have to park in the main lot and walk a bit to reach the gallery in the Classroom Building, it’s well worth a visit.
