Description: River Downs has been offering Thoroughbred racing for more than 70 years, running every day except Wednesday from mid-April through Labor Day. The best local horses can be seen regularly, but twice a year River Downs draws horses from around the country with the $100,000 Bassinet Stakes and the $200,000 Miller Genuine Draft Cradle Stakes.The track, which sits along the riverfront and next to Coney Island and Riverbend Music Center, underwent a $14 million renovation a few years ago and now offers an enclosed, air-conditioned grandstand in which lunch and cocktails can be ordered. Since the track runs during the warmer months, most of the track’s seating is in an outdoor grandstand, where bettors can see, feel, and smell the action.The track also offers simulcasts of seven races from Thistledowns in Cleveland and offers a betting card that is a combination of the River Downs and Thistledowns races.The River Downs Race Book betting area simulcasts races from around the country as well as Australia and Hong Kong.Admission for live racing is $3 for the clubhouse and free for the grandstand. Parking is free in designated areas.
