Description: Once the largest station in the country, WLW is still a formidable power here in town. Nicknamed “the Big One,” the format is talk, sports, and shock radio. The programming on this Clear Channel station starts off tame in the morning with the pleasant Jim Scott. Midday talk show host Mike McConnell takes on hefty political issues. Afternoon drive time is devoted to laughs, current events and sports talk, with shock jock Bill Cunningham, and later afternoon talk with Eddie Fingers. And during the season, WLW is the radio home of the Reds. WLW’s history is rich: Rod Serling scribbled scripts here for a drama show that eventually evolved into The Twilight Zone. A freckled blonde named Doris Day got her first on-air job here. So did Rosemary Clooney, Andy Williams, Red Barber, the McGuire Sisters, Red Skelton, and Fats Waller.
