Description: Founded in 1944 by the late Harvey Gross, Harveys Lake Tahoe Casino & Resort has the distinction of being South Shore Lake Tahoe’s original casino property. It was recently acquired by Harrah’s Entertainment, Inc. From its humble beginnings as a one-room gambling club, it has grown to a full-service resort with the largest hotel at Lake Tahoe. Its modern glass towers and slick decor present a striking contrast to the woodsy ambience of most other Lake Tahoe resorts. The contemporary theme is carried through to the 740 rooms and suites, most of which offer a view of the mountains or Lake Tahoe. The rooms are large and luxurious, with all the extras expected of an award-winning property. Resort amenities include a shopping galleria, health club, swimming pool, spa, and video-game arcade. Harveys casino boasts 52,000 square feet of gaming—with more than 1,100 slot and video gaming machines along with 100 table games. You’ll find live revues along with Improv at Harveys Cabaret. It’s not hard to find great food at this luxury resort; the restaurants offer enough variety to fit any mood and taste. Locals particularly prefer the Sage Room Steak House because of its absolutely mouthwatering steaks served in a casual Western environment. The newest eatery is 19 Kitchen-Bar, which was formerly Llewellyn’s Restaurant. More than $l million in remodeling created an elegant setting for the eclectic, upscale cuisine. Since Harveys is directly across US 50 from Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, guests at either of these resorts can easily walk from one to the other. This area of Stateline is the busiest at South Shore Lake Tahoe, so if you want to be in the center of the action, this is definitely the place.
