Approximately 98 percent of St. Pius X graduates continue to four-year colleges. St. Pius X High School opened in 1956 and moved to its current 40-acre campus on Albuquerque’s Westside in 1988. The campus was formerly home to the Catholic University of Albuquerque. The school has a lively fine arts program, with performance and visual arts, and the music program includes band, orchestra, chorus, and jazz. In 2008 21 chorus and orchestra students from St. Pius X were recognized as New Mexico All-State Musicians. There are over 20 sports teams, with a substantial record of achievement in state championship titles for both boys’ and girls’ soccer and basketball teams, and students have received scholarships to Division 1 university athletic programs. At this faith-based school, student life includes daily prayer and monthly Masses and a required theology curriculum. In order to graduate, pupils must complete a given number of community service hours with a nonprofit organization.
