Description: Classical music is a standby for many Omahans, and the Omaha Symphony—which has been around for close to 90 years—is a local favorite. The Symphony presents a wide variety of concert types, but its Masterworks and Pops series are at the heart of its productions. Most of the shows take place at the acoustically advanced Holland Performing Arts Center; one exception is the more intimate Chamber series, which takes place at the Strauss Performing Arts Center on the University of Nebraska at Omaha campus. The Symphony’s Family series introduces kids to the orchestral experience, and activities in the lobby welcome kids to what may otherwise be an intimidating experience. The “Symphony Rocks” series takes on rock and roll music, and is aimed at both young professional and baby boomer audiences. The one-night-only shows have in the past tackled Michael Jackson, the Eagles, Paul McCartney, and Simon and Garfunkel, among others.Ticket information and a full schedule of concerts are available on the Symphony’s website.
