Description: The KANEKO is Omaha’s newest creative space and it doesn’t fit into any one category. It’s an art space, a performance space, and a library. Its programming includes talks from artists, authors, newspaper reporters, and filmmakers. At the heart of its mission is “exploring the creative process” and, with that, KANEKO’s slogan is “Open Space for Your Mind.”Omaha sculptor Jun Kaneko, known the world over for his ceramic work, opened the nonprofit organization and works with a staff to develop the innovative programming. He commissioned architect Mark Mack to convert a series of existing warehouses into the new space, which will eventually include a gallery where Kaneko will show his large-scale sculptures. The main performance space is a former truck garage that Mack transformed into the “Bow Truss” space. Internal steel girders support the curved roof so no columns or other support obstructs the room.KANEKO’s ongoing series of “great minds” lectures are a big draw, and the website has an up-to-date list of all its upcoming events.
