Description: Omaha’s Joslyn Art Museum boasts the largest collection of work in the state, spanning from ancient times to today, with an emphasis on 19th- and 20th-century European and American art. Joslyn has a large and renowned collection of American Western art, and it’s particularly notable for its Karl Bodmer watercolors, which document the explorer-artist’s mid-1800s journey to the Missouri River frontier. The Joslyn’s art deco building houses its collection and also has a 1,000-seat concert hall, a fountain court, gift shop, cafe, and library. Outside the museum is a newly renovated sculpture garden, which includes a number of specially commissioned works created for the space and a garden created with children in mind. Special exhibitions take place year-round, as do musical performances, lectures, and art classes for all ages. One of the most popular times to visit Joslyn is on Saturday morning, when admission is free from 10 a.m. to noon.
