Description: Hunting and fishing are ubiquitous activities in Nebraska, and Can-Hunt, just outside of Lincoln, has more than 1,000 acres of private hunting land. The main attraction here, though, is that the land is full of native Nebraska grass, trees, and stubble fields and operates completely chemical-free. It’s the only organization of its kind in eastern Nebraska, and hunters can take their pick of guided hunts for pheasant, quail, Chukar or other upland birds, deer, or ducks and waterfowl. All the birds on-site are raised locally and fed organically. The preserve grows all the crops on-site and is certified organic: It has a document trail for more than three years showing it rotates crops properly, stores the feed properly, and grows it without chemicals. The grain is also of a quality that’s fit for human consumption. The chemical-free rules result in a healthier environment and better tasting meat.Can-Hunt also trains hunting dogs—it’s done so for more than 30 years—and will sell or lease a dog to a group of hunters. Hunters can choose from a variety of packages and the preserve operates from September 1 to March 31 every year. Farmed birds are available year-round, as are live birds to go, dried pheasant pelts, and dog services.A number of types of hunts are available, as are custom hunts upon request. Prices vary widely depending on what the hunters are harvesting, the length of the hunt, and the number of hunters. Waterfowl permits and hunting stamps are not available on-site, and hunters must get a permit from the Nebraska Game and Parks Division before arrival.
