Description: Established in 1906 by the Sisters of Mercy as the first Catholic hospital in North Carolina, CMC–Mercy (formerly Mercy Hospital) moved under the Carolinas HealthCare System umbrella in 1995. The 185-bed hospital is located in the heart of the Elizabeth district, not far from the main Carolinas Medical Center in Myers Park.CMC–Mercy is an adult acute care facility, best known for its specialty services and personal approach to patient care. Mercy’s specialized departments include the Lung Center for patients suffering from pulmonary disease; Southeast Pain Center, with more than 100 years of combined experience in relieving chronic pain; and the Heart Center, with complete cardiac services including stress tests, echocardiograms, exercise echocardiograms, bypass, angioplasty, valve replacement, and implants of pacemakers and cardiac defibrillators.Mercy’s Behavioral Health Center’s Horizons program is a short-stay inpatient medical detoxification program for alcohol- and drug-dependent adults.
