Description: Just think: In the mid-1800s prisoners didn’t have TVs or phones. Okay, no one did. But you’ll still be amazed at these dungeonlike cells that held Frank James, William Clark Quantrill of Quantrill’s Raiders, and others crossways with the law. Actually, the cell that held Frank James was opulently outfitted by his many adoring fans, and he took his meals with the jailer’s family. But in other “guest” quarters, barred windows, double iron doors, and leg chains provide a chilling look at frontier justice. The jail and the marshal’s home have been restored to period and contain an outstanding historical collection. Tours are given seven days a week Mar through Dec. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, Jan, and Feb. Admission is $3.50 for adults, $2 for ages 6 to 16, and free for under 6.
