Description: Murray’s may be the reason we don’t mind the heat and humidity in mid-July. This tiny spot at the end of a horseshoe-shaped loop in Westport lists 16 or so flavors on the wall with around 200 other recipes waiting their turn. The Chocolate Flake Fromage, a cream cheese–flavored ice cream with semisweet chocolate flakes, has its own fan club. Other specialties are smooshies, which merge ice cream with such toppings as chunks of candy bars, and lumpies, which are malts made chunkier than normal. Try to control yourself. Murray’s has a few tables indoors and out, but most people prefer to walk around Westport to window-shop and people-watch. During December and January, when Murray’s is closed, you’ll just have to dream about Fudge Raspberry Rhapsody or One Drunk Monk. But they do a very nice send-off: On the last Sun in Nov all ice-cream tubs are half price. If you plan to visit, here’s the scoop: Murray’s opens at noon Tues through Sun and closes between 9 and 10:30 p.m. depending on the day. Closed Mon.
