Description: The 1,312 students who attend the Hollister schools, home of the Tigers, live in a 71-square-mile area within Taney County. The district opened its new $10 million high school in 2005. The assessed valuation of the district is more than $158 million. The school is fully accredited under the new Missouri School Improvement Program Standards, the highest classification standards established by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The school tries to maintain a teacher-pupil ratio that allows for maximum individualized instruction. Approximately one-third of the faculty have advanced degrees. The elementary facility houses 523 students, including 68 preschoolers. The middle school (grades five and six) has 200 students, while the junior high has 181 students. Students are exposed to the traditional subjects of math, science, language arts, reading, health, social studies, and physical education but can also take word study, keyboarding, art, and music.Extracurricular activities include art club, basketball, environmental club, chess club, Model UN, and quiz bowls. The high school has 405 students. More than 90 units of credit are offered, from which a student must select 24 for graduation. The Hollister District has obtained three technology grants. As a result, networked computers have been placed in the middle-school core-subjects classrooms, the high-school computer labs, and most of the elementary classrooms. The district is participating in MOREnet, a state-sponsored program that allows access to the Internet and e-mail services for teachers.
