Description: Castine Kayak Adventures are worth seeking out if only because they bring you to Castine, one of Maine’s prettiest towns. Of course, these trips are quite something in and of themselves. Castine Kayak’s overnights are particularly appealing, and they have three itineraries to choose from and are willing to customize, too. You might try the one- or two-night Exploration of Bagaduce Estuary, an inner waterway known for its reversing currents, islands, and seal haul-outs (this trip even features paddles to several restaurants), or the more ambitious 3-mile Paddle to Warren Island, a crossing of Penobscot Bay to the state park on Warren Island. The coolest offering, though, has to be the Bioluminescent night paddle ($55), which gets you up close and personal to the constellations of glowing critters in the Maine waters on some evenings.
