Description: Brought to you by an impressive team—veteran bar owners Michael Noone (Danny’s bar and Francesca Restaurants), Russ and Desiree Grant (Streetside, Northside), and design duo Alter Ego—this super-cool Pilsen joint attracts a diverse crowd. And it’s no surprise why. Despite some gripes about the music volume set a bit high, it’s got such a wild and crazy atmosphere that it just works. Tripped out with a bar top that once served as a bowling lane, a DJ station made from old pinball machines, a strip of wall painted by local graffiti artists, and booth seats fashioned from former seat belts, it’s almost overstimulating. But no worries: Just belly up for a bottle of Rogue Dead Guy, Anderson Valley Oatmeal Stout, or Three Floyds, and you’ll be fine. Hit them up on a Sunday, and the seasonally rotating 16-ounce draughts are just 4 bucks. Or try one of the souped-up cocktails like a Quickie with Maker’s Mark, Koval ginger, Hum liqueur, and ginger beer. The reused decor, plus a rooftop garden and solar panels have earned Simone’s a Green Restaurant Association certification. Oh, yes, they also serve a menu of soups, salads, sandwiches, and pizzas. And there’s a gallery and performance space to boot. Open daily for lunch, dinner, and late night.
