Description: For a faint glimpse of old-time Jacksonville golf, hit the links at Hyde Park. One of Jacksonville’s older, more scenic courses, it was designed in 1925 by the legendary Donald Ross. Hyde Park has all of Ross’s trademark designs: smaller greens and difficult holes down the back nine. The last four holes at Hyde Park are made tougher with a rolling terrain. The par-72, 6,153-yard course was on the PGA Tour in the 1940s and 1950s as the Greater Jacksonville Open. Hyde Park’s most infamous hole is the 6th, or, as it is fondly called, Hogan’s Alley. During one pro tournament, it took golf legend Ben Hogan 11 strokes to complete the par-3 hole. Playing at Hyde Park today is a pleasant affair. The locals who regularly play the course or gather in the lounge for political chitchat reflect the open Southern hospitality found throughout Northeast Florida. Greens fees are $40 on the weekend and $30 Monday through Friday. You can play nine holes during the week for $18. The pro shop begins taking reservations for weekend play on the preceding Monday.
