Description: Cecil Field Golf Club, located on the former Cecil Field Naval Air Station on Jacksonville’s Westside, was originally built in 1953 by the Navy Seabees. As part of the wave of base closures several years ago, Cecil Field was handed over to the City of Jacksonville. While most of the facility is being converted into commercial and industrial use, the city has retained the golf course for public use.A St. Augustine–based golf course management company that now operates the course for the city has brought the par-72, 6,643-yard course up to U.S. Golf Association standards. It’s not a bad course, especially for beginners—and you can’t beat the cost. Weekday greens fees, including cart, are $24; weekend fees are $30.Carts are required only before 1 p.m. on weekends and holidays. A snack bar serves food and beer, and a beverage cart cruises the course on Saturday and Sunday. There’s also a driving range and practice putting green.
