City Of San Diego Senior Citizen Services - Retirement - San Diego, California

City: San Diego, CA
Category: Retirement
Telephone: (619) 236-6905

Description: The brochures, free newspapers, and general camaraderie of those working or visiting at this busy desk are all good reasons to visit. The office (actually a few cubicles and a counter) is located on the first floor in the city administration building along with several other agencies. Services include referrals for medical and psychological services and housing. This office also issues senior identification cards. Seniors who don’t drive can use these cards to get discounts on bus fares, at restaurants, for accommodations, and for other services. Information is available on discounts for special events and tours that help seniors get out to enjoy a play, for example, or a performance of the opera. The city of San Diego offers a variety of senior services that you can access through this office. There are liaisons with the city attorney’s office, environmental services, the libraries, and the mayor’s office. It’s a good idea to become familiar with their programs no matter where you live. Stop by to pick up a copy of their free handbook, or download it at the Web site.
