Description: This is a premier dog event that usually takes place the last weekend in February, although you’ll want to call to confirm the dates. The Silver Bay show attracts more than 2,200 canine contenders and a hundred breeds vying for Best in Show (that’s what the top dog is called). Judging begins about 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and continues through Sunday as dogs in various categories compete for titles and trophies. At any given time there may be as many as 20 different competitions going on in the three huge indoor facilities. If you’re a dog lover, this is the place to find everything you need for your pooch, from doggie hats to the latest in dog foods and canine treats. Be sure to catch the herding demos and dog obedience competitions; that’s where training shines. The show is a family affair, and admission is free.
