VULCAN RUN - Annual Events & Festivals - Birmingham, Alabama

City: Birmingham, AL
Category: Annual Events & Festivals

Description: Since the first race in 1975, the Vulcan Run has been Birmingham’s premier 10K running event, not only due to its longevity as the city’s longest running road race but also because of its immense popularity. The race started when running was just taking off in the mid-1970s and today more than 2,000 people run it annually. The race starts at 8 a.m. and by 9 a.m. runners are enjoying a beer, massage, and barbecue in Boutwell Auditorium, listening to music and talking about how they could have shaved off some seconds from their time. It’s a fun community event and a chance to talk, meet new and old friends, or run as fast as you possibly can. At 9:30 a.m. the Magic City Mile, a one-mile fun run kicks off, giving kids a chance to follow in their parents’ footsteps. The race benefits Vulcan Park and Museum as well as the Birmingham Track Club. The race starts and finishes in Linn Park at the heart of downtown Birmingham. Cost is $30.
